The Lincoln Hotel package flowers

The wedding flowers of Katherine and her groom. 

This couple chose The Lincoln Hotel as their venue and one of the packages which included the table designs. I am one of the hotels preferred supplies and was asked to create simple low designs with blue and white hydrangea, blue thistles, white and peach roses along with gyp and eucalyptus.

The ceremony (later the top table) design was a simple long and low with the chosen flowers and mixed foliage.

The guest tables were decorated with a mixed bunch of their blooms displayed in my hurricane vase.

These are fully included in the hotel package along with set up and delivery.

Rainbow coloured wedding flowers

I hadn't realised quite how far behind I had got with the weddings and blogging! So many great designs to show you and lots of ideas to give you inspiration.

Let's start with this pre-pandemic (was there such a time!) wedding for P and E.

Their preference was for the ladies to carry a simple posy of carnations, a mix of green, pale peach, gold and white, with a frilling of pistachio.

While the groomsmen wore pale peach traditional style buttonholes.

The wedding was held at The Lincoln Hotel and all the table flowers were to follow the LGBTQ+ rainbow colours.

The ceremony, and later the top table, display was a rainbow explosion of all the colours.

The room was set for 5 guest tables for the 5 rainbow colours.

The table flowers were included within the hotel package (I am one of their preferred suppliers) and this couple chose the small wood crates which we filled with individual colours.

The blue one included Delphinium, thistle, Scabious, Echinops and cornflowers.

The orange design included celosia, carnations, spray roses, sweet peas and roses.

The red was filled with gerbera, celosia, spray roses, eustoma and sweet peas.

The yellow crate included a sunny mix of Deliann, spray roses, gerbera and freesia.

The purple (my favourite) was a lovely summer mix of stocks, eustoma, sweet peas, freesia and lavender.

Each of the designs in situ to show the size on the tables. Once the tables are set these crates are the perfect size and can be kept/given away afterwards.

Winter Wedding favourite flowers

 Happy New Year!! A little late but still! 

The beginning of the year is all about focusing on the future but it can be hard to say goodbye to the past. Flowers can help brighten the mood, remembering a specially bought bloom or a significant day. The flowers you choose to have in your home can transform you back to happier times, to those special events when the days are filled with love and laughter. Don't dismiss this idea when picking your wedding blooms, these in future years will trigger your happy memories at the sight or scent of a flower.

Winter weddings are probably at the very early stages for next winter or if you are a late planner then possibly for this season. Seasonal flowers are stronger, happier and could be cheaper than those out of season so here are the 7 best according to Funny How Flowers Do That.

Amaryllis

Thought of by many as a Christmas flower this looks stunning in tall displays and could be used as an alternative to a lily. Many beautiful colours from whites, creams, peaches, orange, pink, purple reds and bi-colours. They usual are multi bloomed stems and therefore are a great flower for adding to your statement displays. Symbolising pride and enchanting beauty, a perfect wedding bloom.

Anemone

With single a bloom on a stem they look similar to a poppy with their black hearts. They come in white and the jewel colours (red, purple, pink and blue) perfect for a bright winter wedding. They do keep growing once cut so care should be taken on which displays they are included in. Symbolising expectancy,  consideration and honesty what more could you want for a wedding flower.

Lilac

A late winter to spring bloom with their cluster of scented flowers. They do come in a few colours other than their namesake, pink, white and bi-coloured. Adding a few stems of lilac will fill the room with their scent, place at entrances and on tables for best effect. Symbolising domestic happiness, young love and remembrance what could be more perfect for a wedding?

Lisianthus

I use lizzy in a lot of my designs, it's a delicate flower but so pretty and the colour range is constantly growing. White, cream, yellow, green, pinks, peaches, blues and purples with shades of red and brown becoming popular. They have multiple blooms per stem and can be single or double varieties. If you are having a purple themed wedding these are a must! They symbolise gratitude and appreciation. Gardeners may know them as Japanese roses.

Cymbidium orchid

These come in mini and large flowers with many heads per stem. It may be more expensive per stem but you do get value as they are long lasting. Perfect for large display or the individual flowers can be cut and wired into bouquets, buttonholes and flower crowns. Their colour range is pink, purple, red, yellow, orange, green and bi-coloured. Symbolising a valued and respectful friendship.

Tulip

Beautiful tulips, one of my favourite (til next season of course!). Single bloomed stems, in a range of flower types, some frilly, single or double, white, cream, yellow, orange, red, pink purple. They also come in small or larger blooms but be careful where you add them as part of their beauty is they do keep growing and their stems will bend to the light and eventually droop. If you like your flower neat and upright these may not be for you.

Mimosa

A woody plant with yellow flowers, well little yellow pom poms, it has a light scent and can be used on its on for a cloud of sunshine or added to displays instead of the usual gyp. If your not sure on the flower but the name is familiar then you are thinking of the alcoholic drink with champagne and orange juice which is the same fresh colour.

The Wedding Industry Awards

In the past at this time of year I would have been heading out to the local wedding fairs exhibiting my flowers and talking to the lovely couples who are newly engaged or getting around to planning their wedding. With all that has happened over the last few years and with many of the fairs that I attend still not back up and running I am looking at different avenues to market and gain exposure.

With that in mind I have entered The Wedding Industry Awards. I have entered previously and always got through to the Regional finals. 

Only couples who have married between 10th October 2020 and 29th November 2021 can vote and if you are one of these couples I have emailed you a link to use. The feedback I have received from the couples already voted has blown me away! So thank you if that is you.

The regional finalists are announced in early December, so fingers crossed until then.

These awards are a great way of finding out what couples really think of my business, voting is anonymous, and for getting fabulous testimonials to use and encourage other couples to get in touch to discuss their flowers. Hopefully the further I can get, there are regional finals and then the national final, the greater the audience my business is exposed to.

Jam jar deliveries in Lincoln and Gainsborough

 During lockdown you kept me busy with lots of local flower deliveries. These were mainly fulled by me offering jam jar displays, cheap and cheerful, as we couldn't get out to see our loved ones. They also helped me, I was able to chat to people (socially distanced) and kept me busy through what was a really tough time.

Autumn Flowers

 Autumn has certainly arrived this week! I don't know about you but the heating is on and as the nights are rapidly drawing in cosy layers and fires are getting closer. I love all seasons, autumn just takes some getting used to.

But in the flower world it is a fabulous time of gorgeous golds, reds, oranges and purples with blooms lasting longer and the foliage at its stunning best.

Whether you are looking for flowers for your home or inspiration for an autumn wedding there are many beautiful blooms to choose from.

Below are just a few, viburnum berries, crocosmia, hypericum, veronica, roses, callicarpa, euphorbia, physalis, scabiosa and rosehips.

Dahlia are at their best in autumn and add a statement to any arrangement.

As do the humble chrysanthemum. Single, daisy, double or santini there are many types and colours to choose from. Don't rule them out, there are some beautiful blooms which are budget friendly and last for ages.

Door wreaths are not just for Christmas. 

Now we are back visiting (and have visitors) treat them (and you) to a gorgeous display. As the temperature drops fresh flowers can be added or as the trend for dried flowers grows you will have a display that lasts until your festive display is ready.
